Program Manager

Job Description 

General Description:   In collaboration with the Regional Directors, the Program Manager provides support to the daily operations of Impact America, with special focus given to program administration, organization, and implementation.  The Program Manager supervises and supports the AmeriCorps members to ensure a high-quality service experience.

Essential Duties

Administrative Leadership

  • Provides leadership, supervision, and training of AmeriCorps members and assists with recruiting and interviewing potential new members.
  • Serves as a member of the regional staff team, alongside Regional Director.
  • Assists in evaluating Corps members through observation and performance reviews.
  • Supports AmeriCorps Team Leaders and Coordinators in their initiative-specific roles.
  • Exemplifies passion and a commitment to high-quality service for Corps members.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and rapport with Corps members.
  • Takes initiative to look ahead and explore creative approaches to upcoming tasks.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to Corps members for the duration of their service years.

Program Organization

  • Develops, updates, and distributes service schedules, site assignments, and initiative calendars.
  • Collaborates with Regional Director to monitor task lists and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with various site partners and community partners.
  • Ensures AmeriCorps compliance through the compilation of member files and maintenance of proper documentation.
  • Reviews and approves timesheets, transactions, and mileage reimbursements.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks to support the day-to-day operation of the AmeriCorps program and Impact initiatives.

Service Implementation

  • Prepares Corps members for conducting service, recruitment visits, trainings, and outreach assignments.
  • Undergoes initiative-specific training to demonstrate correct procedures for Corps members.
  • Assists Corps members through direct involvement with service tasks as necessary.
  • Coordinates with community partners to ensure site operations run smoothly.
  • Confidently demonstrates flexibility in a dynamic service environment.
  • Actively seeks out and, with appropriate approval, implements and maintains new approaches to efficient program operations.
  • Upholds the goal of high-quality service while simultaneously prioritizing the growth, development, and well-being of the Corps members through their service.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice and sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Background of strong interpersonal skills in a professional setting.
  • Experience handling and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or mentorship experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and repeat the same movements, such as typing, with or without assistance.  Additionally, the program manager must have the ability to understand the speech of another person, verbally communicate clearly so listeners can understand, see details of objects that are less than a few feet away, and follow both verbal and written instructions.  
  • Depending on the climate of the COVID-19 pandemic, this position may require work both in the office and remotely.  
  • Occasional work outside of normal office hours and on Saturdays from January-April may be required.
