On January 16, 2015, WDHN ABC 18 in Dothan provided coverage of free tax preparation services offered by SaveFirst in Dothan. SaveFirst operates at the Saliba Center for Families in partnership with volunteers from Wallace Community College – Dothan to help working families receive the full income tax refund to which they are entitled and save on commercial tax preparation fees.
DOTHAN, Ala. – The Saliba Center for families, Wallace Community College and Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 are partnering together to bring free tax preparation to Dothan. This is a service that has helped over 600 families and has saved $200,000 in commercial fees last year alone.
“This service is so important because lots of families in Dothan pay hundreds of dollars just for a simple tax refund at commercial tax preparers and here at the SaveFirst we’ll be offering the services for free by IRS certified preparers from local colleges,” said Rita Fan, from Impact Alabama.
Working families making less than $52,000 a year with children in the home or making $20,000 a year without children are eligible.
“The tax preparation service is aimed at assisting families that are eligible for the earned income tax credit which is the federal government’s largest and most successful anti-poverty program for working families,” said Fan.
