Originally from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Ashley Peterson made her way to the Bluff City where she graduated from Rhodes College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business. She first served with Impact America as a student volunteer, preparing income taxes through the SaveFirst initiative. While earning her degree, she conducted economic research to explore the potential effects of resource scarcity and impoverishment on mental health. These experiences spurred her interest in advancing racial equity through direct service and economic policies, ultimately contributing to her commitment to a year of AmeriCorps service after graduation. In her role as Program Manager, Ashley employs her passion for taxes and people as she serves alongside the Memphis community with a talented team of AmeriCorps members to reduce accessibility barriers in vision care and taxation.

What do you like to do for fun?
I mostly spend my time listening to podcasts and audiobooks, but I like going to local breweries and exploring restaurants when I’m out and about in the city. If I’m not craving breakfast foods (which is rare) I enjoy eating sushi, southern soul food, and Memphis BBQ.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I really like the Wu-Tang Clan, and I named my pet ferret after RZA.
