Born and raised in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Ashley Peterson left home early to attend the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics for her last two years of high school. In May of 2018, she graduated from Rhodes College with a double major in economics and business. As an undergraduate, Ashley served as a Rhodes Student Associate for the Communications Office where she coordinated and oversaw the creation of web content for the Rhodes College website. What is your favorite quote from a book, film, or song?
A wise man (read: Billy Joel) once sang, “You’ve got your passion, you’ve got your pride, but don’t you know that only fools are satisfied?”
I’m a generally anxious person, but these particular lines help to soothe me. For me, this song reminds me that it’s okay to not have it all figured out yet because as long as I’ve got passion and ambition, I can trust that I will never fall into complacency.

What is your biggest strength?
Empathy. Empathy has allowed me to build meaningful relationships, and the knowledge that any situation could be reversed helps to keep me grounded.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I really like ‘90s rap music, and I even named my pet ferret after the Wu-Tang Clan rapper, RZA.
