Summary of Position:

The SaveFirst Logistics Coordinator facilitates logistics for our tax sites, including outreach, site supplies, and volunteer training and reporting, to ensure smooth site operations. This position will work alongside of our other SaveFirst Team members and report to our SaveFirst Program Director

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with SaveFirst Director and Community Outreach Team Leader to develop effective marketing strategies for each city
  • Assist Community Outreach Team Leader with marketing efforts in the fall by making targeted phone calls to businesses and nonprofits to provide information about SaveFirst to their employees and service recipients (and work with first-year members as support to make calls)
  • Organize and coordinate packaging and distribution of marketing materials to organizations, businesses, etc., and individual cards to prior year taxpayers
  • Plan for and purchase site supplies for tax sites and arrange distribution of supplies
  • Arrange for site setup, technology, security, and other logistics regarding tax sites
  • Document volunteer hours in VMS and assist Volunteer Team Leader in checking these hours.
  • Update SaveFirst Playbook materials throughout the year and at the end of tax season (including detailed instructions on your position responsibilities)
  • Obtain Advanced Level IRS certification and serve as a SaveFirst Site Coordinator at a tax site two weekdays and Saturdays from mid-January to the second week of March (may involve overnight travel); then, some weekdays through mid-April (may involve travel, but not necessarily overnight)
  • Conduct SaveFirst volunteer training sessions on Saturdays in January
  • Potential to serve with other Impact America initiatives in a limited capacity: FocusFirst, a vision care program for preschoolers and SpeakFirst, a debate initiative in schools in Birmingham.

Skills Required:

Successful candidates will exhibit a commitment to improving the lives of economically disadvantaged families, a record of community service and/or civic engagement, leadership skills, the ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals (e.g., college students, families, community partners), flexibility in a fast-paced environment, and a positive attitude.

Candidates with prior experience at one of our SaveFirst Tax Sites generally will be prioritized. However, no tax experience is necessary for this role. A strong candidate will be able to work collaboratively with other members of the staff lead by the Program Director and demonstrate flexibility and a strong attention to detail. You must also be willing to work overtime as necessary during December, January, and February, specifically, working six-day weeks if needed to complete program tasks (four additional vacation days -noted below – will be provided to you to be used at other times throughout the year to help compensate for the necessary overtime)

Additional information:

The position begins July 2019, and ends July 2020, and is based in Birmingham, Alabama (flexibility can be provided with the end date). This a full-time (40 hours per week) position. You will receive 14 vacation days plus holiday breaks (including a 3-day holiday break at Thanksgiving, 2-week winter holiday at the end of December, and a 2-day spring holiday in April).
