Summary of Program: The Regional Director manages a team of 12-15 AmeriCorps Service Members who serve communities through Impact America service initiatives and cultivates community partnerships to strengthen our work and profile throughout Tennessee, with a future emphasis on the western region of the state.

Summary of Position: Impact America engages recent graduates and college students to address community needs, empowering a generation through collaborative efforts to promote change in the communities we serve.  In order for our communities and institutions to thrive, we desperately need the talent, vitality, and perspective that only young people can bring.  This generation of college students and recent graduates is among the most charitable in American history, with many yearning for an opportunity to make a real difference in communities of need.  Impact America provides that opportunity in the Tennessee through two distinct initiatives that promote change while cultivating leadership:

  • FocusFirst, a high-tech vision care initiative serving young children in urban and rural areas
  • SaveFirst, a free tax preparation initiative serving low-income, working families

Tennessee Regional Director Responsibilities:

  • Oversee implementation of Impact America’s two initiatives throughout Tennessee, with a focus on the Memphis area
  • Assist in developing performance targets to increase the number of children and families served and a strategy to meet them, including participating in strategic planning sessions with Board of Directors
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with new community partners who could strengthen our work and/or profile within Memphis and other communities throughout Tennessee, including fundraising to support the growth of our budget in the state
  • Manage a team of 15 AmeriCorps Members as they perform direct service in the community, including professional development, reflection activities, and participation in community-building events
  • Monitor expenditures in accordance with Board-approved budget
  • Strengthen relationships with interested professors and administrators to establish Impact America initiatives in service-learning courses on campuses, including identifying and meeting with new professor partners
  • Manage compliance of federal AmeriCorps grant, including member files, progress reports, and service activities of members
  • Speak to interested student groups and classes to recruit student participants
  • FocusFirst-specific responsibilities:
    • Maintain strong relationships with Head Start and daycare center directors
    • Communicate with the FocusFirst Scheduler(s) to ensure vision screenings are scheduled and administrative details are confirmed
    • Supervise the processing of results from vision screenings to ensure follow-up care is provided to children who fail the screenings
  • SaveFirst-specific responsibilities:
    • Work with SaveFirst Director to ensure five tax sites are set up in communities of need in Memphis
    • Oversee marketing efforts to reach out to eligible taxpayers
    • Supervise Memphis SaveFirst Team Leader who will take the lead in SaveFirst preparation, implementation, and training of AmeriCorps Members
  • Represent Impact America – Tennessee in press appearances

Reports to: President

Location: This position is based in Memphis, Tennessee, but service work is also performed in areas around Western Tennessee, Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga.  10% or less of time will require travel.

Skills/Experience Preferred:

  • Management experience, including experience supervising others (especially in a nonprofit setting)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • At least three years of related experience
  • Community connections in Memphis are a plus
  • Master’s in public policy, public administration, or a related field preferred

Salary: Commensurate with experience
