Recruitment

Are you currently accepting applications for the 2020-2021 service team?

Yes! At this time, we are planning for a normal service year in 2020-2021 and are hiring accordingly.

How will my experience on the 2020-2021 team be impacted by COVID-19?

As long as social distancing guidelines have been lifted and schools are open by August, the general service year experience will not look any different. Team Leads may have some virtual training over the summer if needed.

I have already been accepted to the program for the 2020-2021 service year. Is my position in jeopardy?

Nope! We do not plan on rescinding any offers and are building our teams in anticipation of a normal service year.

I have accepted a position and am moving for my service year. Since I cannot travel right now, can someone help me find a place to live?

Contact your state or regional director for housing guides and recommendations.

Who can I contact for more information?

SpeakFirst

Will SpeakFirst High School resume?

We are working to create lessons and assignments that can be done virtually starting April 6. We are also still accepting applications to the high school team for the 2020-2021 school year and plan to resume practice in the fall.

What’s the due date for applications?

We now have two different deadlines for our applications. We have a priority deadline, which is May 4. Students who apply for this deadline will know before the end of the school year whether or not they’ve been chosen for the SpeakFirst High School team. They also will be attending debate camp this summer, pending the decisions that debate camps make about how they are going to proceed. The regular decision deadline is August 21. We will only continue accepting applications for this deadline if all the spots on our Novice team have not been filled. Applications are available online.

Will SpeakFirst Middle School resume?

Unfortunately, with the state of Alabama’s decision to move to e-learning for schools, we will not be resuming SpeakFirst Middle School for the rest of this school year.

Will there be a third middle school tournament?

No, the third middle school tournament planned for this spring has been canceled.

SaveFirst

Where can I get my taxes done?

At this time, all of our sites are closed for in-person appointments, and we don’t have an anticipated return date. This is for your health and safety. You can visit impactamerica.com/savefirstonline for information about our new option for preparing your tax return virtually.

I have questions about the stimulus check payment. Do I have to file a return in order to get a check?

The first set of guidelines has been released by the IRS. As always, you should check https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

The federal filing deadline has been moved to July 15. Can I still get my taxes done by you after April?

Yes. At this time, all of our sites are closed for in-person appointments and we don’t have an anticipated return date. This is for your health and safety. You can visit impactamerica.com/savefirstonline for information about our new option for preparing your tax return virtually. We will continue to provide tax preparation services past April 15; however, the IRS has recommended taxpayers to e-file as soon as possible if they think they will be owed a refund and has specifically advised taxpayers not to wait until July 15.

FocusFirst

Are you still conducting vision screenings?

At this time, FocusFirst is not conducting vision screenings. We do not currently have an anticipated return date. Once we resume screenings, we will begin contacting centers to schedule. This break in screenings is meant to support the social distancing efforts of communities and to support the health and well-being of your students and center staff.

Are children referred still receiving follow up care?
